Wild Card
(2GP+/0PP/A)
Cinematically: By weaving temporary
enchantments, switching out cybernetic attachments, or morphing into
different forms, a
character with this
gimmick may alter his selection of mystical powers and special abilities
on a daily basis. By using this gimmick, characters can receive a
plethora of options to overcome various challenges and enemies
can always get
quick access to the abilities they need to combat their opponents.
Mechanically: At initial purchase, this gimmick grants the character
one “Wild Card Gimmick Point.” For every two additional
Gimmick Points spent on this gimmick beyond its initial cost, the
character gains one more Wild Card Gimmick Point. The character may
spend as
many of his Gimmick Points as he wants on this gimmick during character
creation and may gain even more Wild Card Gimmick Points during the
course of the game by spending Style Points. A character can have
a maximum number of Wild Card Gimmick Points based on the Anime Realm.
In Shojo games, characters may have up to five Wild Card Gimmick
Points.
In Shonen games, characters may have up to 10 Wild Card Gimmick Points.
In Sentai games, characters may have up to 15 Wild Card Gimmick Points.
Wild card Gimmick Points are not used to purchase specific gimmicks
during character creation. Instead, each game-time day, the character
spends his Wild Card Gimmick Points to purchase whatever gimmicks
he desires. Depending on the cinematic description of this gimmick,
the
character may either have to announce the gimmicks he has chosen
at the beginning of each game-time day, or he may be able to spend
some
or all of his Wild Card Gimmick Points to purchase new gimmicks at
any time during the course of the day. If the character is allowed
to purchase gimmicks during the course of the day, purchasing gimmicks
counts as an instant action and any number of gimmicks may be purchased
simultaneously, provided that the character has enough Wild Card
Gimmick Points to afford them. The Narrator may always place restrictions
on
which gimmicks are available to be purchased using Wild Card Gimmick
Points. Sentai gimmicks may never be purchased with Wild Card Gimmick
Points without Narrator approval.
Once the character has purchased a gimmick using Wild Card Gimmick
Points, he possesses that gimmick for the remainder of the game-time
day. At the end of each day, he loses access to all gimmicks he purchased
with Wild Card Gimmick Points that day and regains his full stock
of Wild Card Gimmick Points, which are immediately available to be
spent
on new gimmicks. Depending on the cinematic nature of the game, the
Narrator may choose to limit the list of gimmicks available for purchase
with Wild Card Gimmick Points, or add new available gimmicks throughout
the course of the game. Thus, a magical “priest” character
may be required to spend his Wild Card Gimmick Points only on healing
gimmicks, gimmicks that can be cinematically described as holy miracles,
and so forth.
The character may not spend his Wild Card Gimmick Points to purchase
new gimmicks for widgets, pets, or mecha. Widgets, pets, and mecha
must purchase the Wild Card gimmick with their own Gimmick Points
in order to gain its benefits.
Mecha: Mecha may purchase and use this gimmick as described above.
