Gimmick Upgrades
Accuracy Upgrade (3GP+/0PP/A)
Cinematically: Through extensive training,
intense target practice, dedicated study, or mystical charms, a character
with this gimmick has a permanently increased ability to strike with
a chosen gimmick attack.
Mechanically: This gimmick is permanently
in operation and is purchased as an add-on gimmick for practically any
gimmick whose use requires the character to roll an ability check to
strike. This gimmick may be purchased at the same time as the chosen
gimmick, or it may be purchased and added onto the chosen gimmick later.
When purchased, this gimmick applies to only one gimmick and must be
purchased separately to apply to another gimmick.
At initial purchase, the character receives a permanent +1 bonus to
his Action Total on all ability checks required to strike with his chosen
gimmick. By spending three additional points on this gimmick beyond
its initial cost (6 GP total), the bonus is increased to +2. No gimmick
may receive more than a +2 bonus to strike from this gimmick. Thus,
a character spends six Gimmick Points to add this gimmick to his Blast
Attack. Whenever he activates Blast Attack, his Firearms check to strike
with the blast gains a +2 bonus.
Mecha: Mecha may purchase and use this
gimmick as described above. The ability check bonus is applied to the
mecha’s ability checks if the mecha is sentient or to the mecha
pilot’s ability checks if the mecha is non-sentient.
Damage Upgrade (2GP+/0PP/A)
Cinematically: By practicing a special
training ritual, meditating to focus his chi energy, or just getting
really super pissed, a character with this gimmick permanently increases
the damage of a single attack gimmick.
Mechanically: This gimmick is permanently
in operation and is purchased as an add-on gimmick for another attack
gimmick that inflicts damage that can be Resisted, such as Blast Attack
and Robo Punch. This gimmick may not be added onto a gimmick that inflicts
non-Resistible damage, such as Drain Life and Untouchable, nor may it
be added onto any gimmick with a duration greater than one turn. This
gimmick may be purchased at the same time as the chosen gimmick, or
it may be purchased and added onto the chosen gimmick later. When purchased,
this gimmick applies to only one gimmick and must be purchased separately
to apply to another gimmick.
At initial purchase, the character’s attack gimmick inflicts one
additional point of damage whenever it strikes. For every two additional
Gimmick Points spent on Damage Upgrade beyond its initial cost, the
attack gimmick inflicts one additional point of damage, to a maximum
damage increase of +5. No gimmick may receive more than a +5 damage
increase from this gimmick. Thus, a character spends 10 Gimmick Points
to add this gimmick to his Special Attack cross slash sword attack.
The attack, which originally inflicted Strength +6 damage (+3 from the
sword and another +3 from the Special Attack), now inflicts Strength
+11 damage (+5 from Damage Upgrade).
Mecha: Mecha may purchase
and use this gimmick as described above.
Efficiency Upgrade
(3GP+/0PP/A)
Cinematically: By increasing his mystical
regenerative powers, cutting down on wasteful body movements, or developing
an innate sense of the mana flow surrounding him, a character may use
this gimmick to permanently reduce the activation cost of a single gimmick.
Mechanically: This gimmick is permanently
in operation and is purchased as an add-on gimmick for another gimmick.
This gimmick may be added onto any gimmick with an activation cost greater
than one Pool Point. This gimmick may be purchased at the same time
as the chosen gimmick, or it may be purchased and added onto the chosen
gimmick later. When purchased, this gimmick applies to only one chosen
gimmick and must be purchased separately to apply to another gimmick.
At initial purchase, the activation cost of the chosen gimmick is permanently
reduced by one Pool Point. For every three additional Gimmick Points
spent on this gimmick beyond its initial cost, the activation cost is
reduced by another Pool Point, to a minimum activation cost of one Pool
Point. If the chosen gimmick has a variable activation cost (like Dragon
Blast), the gimmick’s lowest normal activation cost is reduced
by the Efficiency Upgrade gimmick (to a minimum cost of one Pool Point),
and additional Pool Points are spent to activate the gimmick normally.
Thus, a character spends six Gimmick Points to add this gimmick to Blast
Attack, reducing its activation cost from three Pool Points to one Pool
Point.
Mecha: Mecha may purchase and use this
gimmick exactly as described above.
